‘Eternals’ Star Richard Madden Addresses Possibility Of Ikaris Leading The Avengers

Eternals star Richard Madden was recently asked whether or not Ikaris could become the next leader of the Avengers.

With Steve Rogers seemingly out of the picture in superhero retirement, we don’t know who the current leader of the Avengers is in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the first Eternals trailer, Richard Madden’s Ikaris brought up the idea of him becoming the next Avengers leader, but it’s quickly laughed off by his team. Madden recently made his case to Total FIlm on why Ikaris would be a good fit to lead the Avengers when asked:

“I don’t know. I know that he’s a good leader and a good soldier. If those are two traits that you need to lead the Avengers, then he has them. But I wouldn’t be able to predict that.”

Richard Madden then talked in more detail about what drew him to the role of Ikaris in Eternals:

“That’s why I was drawn to him. I don’t see him as a superhero I’ve seen before. I see him as a man first, and quite a complicated character, before a superhero. You know, superheroes have laser eyes. Superheroes can fly. So, there’s lots of parallels. But as a character, I’ve not seen anyone like him before. The concept of these characters, and how deep Chloé [Zhao] wanted to go with these people who have been alive for so long, and have experienced so many different things. So that’s what really intrigued me – how these people interact with each other, and also the rest of the world when they’ve seen everything and done everything. That was kind of fascinating.”

Here is the synopsis for Chloe Zhao’s Eternals:

“When monstrous creatures called the Deviants, long thought lost to history, mysteriously return, the Eternals are forced to reunite in order to defend humanity once again.”

Chloé Zhao is directing Eternals from a script written by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. The cast of the Marvel Studios project includes Gemma Chan as Sersi, Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Angelina Jolie as Thena, and Barry Keoghan as Druig.

Eternals is set to hit theaters on November 5, 2021. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
