Kit Harington has discussed his potential future in the MCU as well as his character’s rumored romance with Sersi in Marvel’s Eternals.
Eternals is poised to be one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most unique films in that it’s directed by notable auteur Chloe Zhao, who most recently won an Academy Award for directing Nomadland. The Marvel films is also expected to take place throughout the history of the MCU, giving us a front-row seat to see how Earth has evolved throughout the years. The film also boasts a stellar cast, which includes Game of Thrones alumni Kit Harington, who plays one of the few humans in the film.
In a recent chat with Total Film, Kit Harington discussed his character Dane Whitman, who goes on to become The Black Knight.
“He’s not an Eternal. He’s a character who works with the Natural History Museum in London. But he’s not an Eternal – that’s the main takeaway!”
When asked about Dane Whitman’s future in the MCU, Kit Harington remained coy, discussing how he wasn’t aware of any future plans.
“I’ve got no idea whether my character goes on or not, I had read up on who he could be, or might be. So there’s the possibility for a longer trajectory. And hopefully, I think this is the tip of the iceberg for my character. I hope. But I just don’t know, you know? I’m as in the dark as anyone else. And I try not to live too far ahead in the future with anything. Even when I was in Game of Thrones, even on the sixth season, I presumed the seventh season wasn’t going to happen!”
Rumors have suggested for quite some time that Kit Harington’s character is in a love triangle with Gemma Chan’s Sersi and Richard Madden’s Ikaris – two Eternals who have been together for over 7,000 years. The latest trailer shows Harington’s character inquiring Sersi why she and the Eternals didn’t save Thanos, proving that Sersi has revealed her immortal existence to Whitman. When asked if there is truth to the rumors that suggest The Black Knight is locked in a love triangle with Sersi and Ikaris, Harington dismissed them.
“I think there’s been a few things said about that in the press. I wouldn’t say that a lot of it is accurate. But he has a connection with Sersi, as does Richard’s character.”
With Shang-Chi proving itself to be a hit amidst the Delta variant, Eternals is on track to release this November. Details on the film are still slim even this close to release, making this one of the MCU’s most secretive films since Avengers: Endgame.
Often defending Earth from their monstrous counterparts, the Eternals became embroiled in a civil war amongst themselves over whether or not they should conquer the other races. One faction was led by Kronos and the other by his warlike brother named Uranos, with Kronos’ side ultimately winning the conflict while Uranos and his followers were exiled.
Chloé Zhao is directing Eternals from a script written by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. The cast of the Marvel Studios project includes Gemma Chan as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Barry Keoghan as Druig, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, Salma Hayek as Ajak and Angelina Jolie as Thena.
Eternals is set to hit theaters on November 5, 2021. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
