The Eternals To Release Exclusively To Theaters, According To New Report

Marvel and Disney are sending Eternals exclusively to theatres according to a new report.

2021 has been an awkward year at the box office. While cinemagoers are still showing up to their local ticket booths, the numbers don’t seem high enough in most cases to justify theatrical releases. That is, of course, mostly due to the fact that we are still emerging out of the COVID-19 pandemic, and that a majority of releases, like Marvel’s Black Widow, have also had home release options. Disney and Marvel treated Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings as an experiment of sorts, as it was the first Marvel film since Spider-Far From Home to receive an exclusive theatrical release.

The studio previously suggested that Eternals‘ release would hinge on Shang-Chi‘s success, and it looks like Marvel’s latest offering was a bonafide hit, as Disney appears to be moving forward with a theatrical release for Chloe Zhao’s sprawling Marvel epic.

Former Hollywood Reporter editor Matthew Belloni revealed in his “What I’m Hearing” newsletter that Disney CEO Bob Chapek and Distribution Chief Kareem Daniels have decided that Chloe Zhao’s Eternals will premiere in cinemas exclusively. This decision comes in the wake of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings racking up an impressive $100 million-plus opening weekend. Not bad for a film released in the midst of a pandemic.

After Shang-Chi broke pandemic barriers, it’s clear that fans from around the world are itching to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the Eternals news isn’t confirmed, it also can’t be denied, as Marvel and Disney haven’t formally announced a Disney Plus release or a delay. All in all, it looks like we’ll be seeing the Eternals grace our local multiplexes this November.

Chloé Zhao is directing Eternals from a script written by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. The cast of the Marvel Studios project includes Gemma Chan as Sersi, Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Angelina Jolie as Thena, and Barry Keoghan as Druig.

Eternals is set to hit theaters on November 5, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the releases of Shang-Chi and Eternals and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
