Zachary Levi teased that the Shazam Family will have new powers in Shazam!: Fury of the Gods.
The DC Extended Universe film Shazam! had a youthful adventurousness to it – much of which can be attributed to the performances of Zachary Levi and the young cast. The film further expanded upon its exciting premise in the third act when Billy Batson’s foster siblings all become superheroes themselves, bringing the Shazam Family to life. With Fury of the Gods on the way, there are more powers where that came from.
During a Dragon Con 2021 panel, Zachary Levi and Jack Dylan Grazer teased that some exciting new abilities for the Shazam Family will be showcased in Fury of the Gods. Here is what Zachary Levi had to say:
“So at the end of the movie [ Shazam! ], what happens is, the kids get superpowers… it’s so fun and amazing, but then we didn’t really get to do a lot with them… until this movie. Until this movie, there’s a whole lot more of getting to see the whole dynamic of all the super-versions of all the [family members].”
Jack Dylan Grazer reiterated his co-star’s tease for the Shazam Family in Fury of the Gods, exclaiming that “it’s so good!” reflecting the same excitement that we can expect from his superhero enthusiast character, Freddy Freeman.
Shazam!: Fury of the Gods just wrapped production this week, and fans are excited to see where Zachary Levi and the rest of the Shazam Family embark on in their latest adventure. This time, they will be joined by Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu and Rachel Zegler in what is shaping up to be an epic new DCEU film.
Here is the official synopsis for Zachary Levi’s first Shazam! movie:
We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quick.
Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans, and Djimon Hounsou.
Shazam! is available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD, while Fury of the Gods will hit theaters on June 2, 2023.
