The Russo Brothers are reportedly at “an impasse” to direct another film for Marvel Studios due to Scarlett Johansson’s lawsuit against Disney.
A return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the Russo Brothers after Avengers: Endgame feels inevitable, with fans online speculating that their next big project will be Secret Wars. However, a new report from The Wall Street Journal suggests the road back to Marvel might be easier said than done.
Scarlett Johansson is notably suing Disney over the release of Black Widow. The lawsuit has reportedly led to some hesitancy on the Russo Brothers’ end, who have “hit an impasse in negotiations to direct another Marvel movie.”
The directing duo is currently focused on The Grey Man for Netflix, which stars Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans. Another potential Marvel project in the future has the Russo Brothers questing how it will be distributed and how stars will be paid in the wake of Black Widow‘s release on Disney Plus under Premier Access.
Here is the synopsis for Avengers: Endgame:
The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”
