First ‘Dune’ Reactions Applaud Denis Villeneuve’s Vision

The first reactions for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune have hit the internet with plenty of acclaim.

Dune is one of the biggest risks Warner Bros. is taking this year, especially in the middle of a pandemic. However, the word leading up to Dune‘s screening at the Venice Film Festival has been extremely positive, and now critics have shared their thoughts on the film a month ahead of its release in theaters and on HBO Max. You can take a look at some of those reactions to Denis Villeneuve’s latest film below.

I have experienced #Dune. It’s a once-in-a-generation film, akin to when Lord of the Rings hit the big screen 20 years ago. When it ended I was ready for more

DUNE Part One is remarkable, stunning, immersive & a truly masterful cinematic achievement. Villeneuve simultaneously created one of the most intimate yet large scale productions I’ve ever seen. Zimmer’s score is an absolute all-timer. Pure cinematic bliss on every single level. pic.twitter.com/UFoEGRE4kI

I’ve watched #Dune & it’s among the most immersive moviegoing experiences I’ve ever had w/ a sci-fi film. There is masterful filmmaking on display here. When paired w/ its big, monstrous sound, the film wondrously transports you to a new, exciting, horrific yet beautiful world pic.twitter.com/Z0oNUJbiNE

I know you’re used to people raving about a movie on social media after it premieres. But trust me when I say Denis Villeneuve’s #Dune is a masterpiece not just of science-fiction but of cinema. Haven’t felt transported like that in a movie theater in a long time. 1/3 pic.twitter.com/VvJ5xg8zlb

#Dune is the spectacle it promises to be.

Some sequences move very slowly. Some move quickly and are tremendously engaging.

Gorgeous sets and costumes. Top-notch world-building. Hans Zimmer’s music is brilliant. It’s insanely ambitious and very artistic. pic.twitter.com/NsU1cuwv3e

Based on the early reactions to Dune, it sounds like Denis Villeneuve nailed the adaptation of the book’s first half. Some were even brave enough to call the film the next Lord of the Rings. Only time will tell if the second half of Dune will get made. In addition to a sequel, Dune: The Sisterhood is also in development for HBO Max.

Here is the synopsis for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune:

Set in the distant future, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides whose family accepts control of the desert planet Arrakis. As the only producer of a highly valuable resource, control of Arrakis is highly contested among the noble families. After Paul and his family are betrayed, the story explores themes of politics, religion, and man’s relationship to nature as Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family’s control of Arrakis.

Denis Villeneuve directed Dune from a script he co-wrote with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts. The film stars Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgard, Charlotte Rampling, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem, and David Dastmalchian.

Dune arrives in theaters and on HBO Max on October 22, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming film, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
