Thor: Love And Thunder star Natalie Portman has opened up about bulking up as Jane Foster for the upcoming Marvel sequel.
The presence of Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster is a very peculiar one. In total, she has only appeared in three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films but is frequently mentioned in the Avengers film and once in Thor: Ragnarok. She was last seen in Avengers: Endgame but made her last full appearance in Thor: The Dark World and was apparently done with the role. Then Marvel decided to hit us all with a bombshell.
The fourth installment to the Thor series was originally announced back in July of 2019 but also revealed that Natalie Portman would be returning as Jane Foster and that she would be wielding Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir. Photos have since shown the actress on set but have not given away what she will look like wielding the Asgardian weapon. The actress has bulked up for the role and maintained her workout through the film’s shoot.
While speaking Vanity Fair, the actress opened up about her workout routine and found the process fun:
“It was really fun. I worked with a trainer, Naomi Pendergast, for, I think it was, four months before shooting, and then obviously all the way through filming. We did a lot of weight training and a lot of protein shakes—heavyweight training that I haven’t ever done before. Of course, I’ve never really aimed to get bulky. It was very physical, so it was a lot of both agility work and also strength work. It definitely helps you get into character, and it’s definitely changed the way I move. You walk differently; you feel different. I mean, it’s so wild to feel strong for the first time in my life.”
Full details on the plot for Love and Thunder are currently being kept under lock and key. The Marvel Studios film is said to be partly based on Jason Aaron’s Mighty Thor comic book run, with Jane Foster becoming the new Thor.
Directed by Taika Waititi from a script he co-wrote with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, Love and Thunder stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, Christian Bale, Jaimie Alexander, Chris Pratt, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn and Jeff Goldblum. Matt Damon, Sam Neill, Luke Hemsworth, Melissa McCarthy, Ben Falcone, and Russell Crowe are also on board.
Thor: Love and Thunder is set to be released on May 6, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming Marvel film and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
