Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu has praised his fellow Marvel costar and on-screen dad Tony Leung.
Tony Leung is one of the most prominent actors in Hong Kong cinema, having starred in well-known films like Infernal Affairs and In The Mood For Love. With the release of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Leung is expected to make a big splash in Hollywood, a market that has largely overlooked him. While fans of his have continued to sing his praises leading up to the Marvel film, Shang-Chi actor Simu Liu has chimed in as well, calling the actor “a masterclass in acting”.
Simu Liu took part in an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on the r/MarvelStudios subreddit ahead of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings‘ domestic debut. When asked by a fan what it was like to work with Tony Leung, Liu took the opportunity to gush about his on-screen dad, who plays The Mandarin.
“Like a master class in acting every single day. He is every bit as legendary as the legends say. What makes Tony so incredibly watchable is his stillness, his ability to convey such emotional color with a single glance. For a newbie like me coming to set full of nervous energy, he really grounded me and forced me to be still and present. Also, I just love that my job was to literally stare into Tony’s eyes for hours at a time.”
Fans have been eagerly awaiting to see the “real” Mandarin on the big screen so it’s quite exciting that such a decorated and prolific actor like Tony Leung was brought in for the role. The long wait to see the Mandarin on the big screen gets shorter each day, as the Marvel film is set to debut this Friday.
