Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has said that he and the people who work with him already have ideas for a Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings sequel.
Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings is a film that has a lot riding on its shoulders. It will be the first Marvel Cinematic Universe film to feature an East Asian character as its lead as well as the first solo film to establish a new character in the post-Avengers: Endgame universe. Arguably as important is that it’s the second MCU film to be released during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Earlier this summer Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow film had a strong weekend opening but failed to maintain its box-office numbers, ultimitly making it the third lowest-grossing film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now as the Covid-19 Delta variant ravages the world the question that is on everyone’s mind is will people come out to see Shang-Chi and how will its box-office performance affect any potential sequels? Regardless of how it turns out, Kevin Feige and the people at Marvel already have an idea as to where they want to take the property.
While speaking to ComicBook.com, Kevin Feige addressed the prospect of a Shang-Chi sequel. While nothing appears to be in active development, he did admit that he and the people he works with at Marvel do have some ideas as to where they want to take the series:
“I’m always confident and nervous in equal proportions. The early reactions to the characters and to itself gives me great hope that that people will want to see more of these characters. We certainly have many ideas of where to take them and where to put them. And as exactly as you say, what’s so fun, we know the movie’s working when it’s not just the title character that people ask about, but it is the co0stars or the supporting players that people ask about. And in this movie in particular, that’s heartening because we think they’re spectacular, and we think they have great potential in the future.”
Here is the synopsis for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings:
“Simu Liu stars as Shang-Chi in Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings. Shang-Chi must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization.”
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a script written by David Callaham, the upcoming Marvel film stars Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Meng’er Zhang, Fala Chen, Florian Munteanu, Benedict Wong, Michelle Yeoh, and Tony Leung. The upcoming movie will hit theaters on September 3, 2021.
