James Gunn has teased that a supposedly dead Suicide Squad villain is actually alive.
The Suicide Squad hit theatres earlier this month, becoming one of DC’s most critically acclaimed films. James Gunn managed to do the impossible and actually live up to the film’s source material by actively killing off characters throughout the film. In fact, most of the characters presented during the film’s marketing didn’t make it out of the first act. While most of the villains in the film did die, Gunn has revealed that a certain member of the Suicide Squad might still be alive.
During a The Suicide Squad watch party, James Gunn pointed out how Nathan Fillion’s The Detachable Kid hasn’t been confirmed dead from the life signals in the Comms hub. It was presumed that The Detachable Kid died during the first team’s assault on the beach.
Another character from The Suicide Squad that was presumed to be dead was Weasel, who seemingly drowned after the team was dropped off at the beach. In the film’s post-credits scene it was revealed that Weasel simply passed out from the traumatic experience. Maybe Weasel and The Detachable Kid can get off the island together, as a team? That would definitely make for a hilarious spin-off.
Here is the synopsis for The Suicide Squad:
Welcome to hell—a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese. Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and-destroy mission, with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave…and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them.
Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Peter Capaldi, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, Michael Rooker, Pete Davidson, Nathan Fillion, Sean Gunn, Flula Borg, Mayling Ng, Tinashe Kajese, Steve Agee, Jennifer Holland, Alice Braga, Juan Diego Botto, Joaquin Cosio, Storm Reid and Taika Waititi.
