‘Captain Marvel 2’ Director Nia DaCosta Originally Pitched X-Men & Galactus Film To Marvel

Captain Marvel 2 director Nia DaCosta revealed that she originally pitch an X-Men and Galactus crossover film to Marvel Studios.

Nia DaCosta made history this weekend as the first black woman to get No.1 at the box office thanks to Candyman, which made over $20 million with its opening. Now, the record-breaking director is working on The Marvels, a direct sequel to Captain Marvel, which also features Monica Rambeau (WandaVision) and Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel). It turns out that DaCosta is quite the hardcore comic book reader as the original project she pitched to the studio featured the X-Men and Galactus.

In a chat with The Guardian, the Captain Marvel 2 director revealed that when she originally met with producer Mary Livanos, she began to pitch an idea that saw the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Galactus sharing the big screen.

“I just nerded out. I was like, here are the movies I think you should do! Galactus, Storm and Scott Summers team-up movie! Blah blah blah! She just endured me going in super-deep. And she also gave me a lot of confidence that I would have the creative latitude to not just basically be a puppet on a string.”

Nia DaCosta’s proposed X-Men and Fantastic Four crossover with Galactus didn’t work out, but her energy and love for all things Marvel clearly shows in her enthusiasm. Brie Larson previously praised DaCosta’s vision for the sequel, as well as the director’s confidence in stepping into the studio’s cinematic universe.

Brie Larson debuted as the superheroine in 2019.  Here is the synopsis from the film of the same name:

Set in the 1990s, Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that follows the journey of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. While a galactic war between two alien races reaches Earth, Danvers finds herself and a small cadre of allies at the center of the maelstrom.
