The cinematographer for Spider-Man: No Way Home was none other than the Oscar-winning Director of Photography for James Cameron’s Avatar.
Earlier this week, the long-awaited first trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home dropped, breaking all-time records for trailer views. With hype for the film continuing to build, fans are excited to hear more coming out of the production, which Tom Holland described as the “most ambitious standalone superhero movie ever made.”
As it turns out, the film received a new cinematographer. Seamus McGarvey was originally attached, but dropped out. Now, it appears that Mauro Fiore, cinematographer for Avatar was behind the camera on Spider-Man: No Way Home. Gaffer Josh Davis, who worked on the new film revealed the following to Litegear:
“I’m currently working on the third installment of Spider-Man with actor Tom Holland, DP Mauro Fiore, and Director Jon Watts. It’s my largest job as a gaffer thus far, and wow – what a ride! Be careful what you ask for. Be thankful for the people that help you get there. Be grateful for the ones that help you get it done.”
Although Avatar is often criticized today by some fans online that claim it lacks cultural resonance despite being the highest-grossing film of all-time, the film was praised as a technical achievement upon its release in 2009. The film sparked an interest in the industry with 3D, and much of that is thanks to James Cameron and Mauro Fiore’s approach with the visual storytelling and cinematography. At the very least, it’s nice to see that Spider-Man: No Way Home was shot by an Oscar-winning cinematographer.

“For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero is unmasked and no longer able to separate his normal life from the high-stakes of being a Super Hero. Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Spider-Man: No Way Home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jon Favreau, Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei, J.B. Smoove, Benedict Wong, Alfred Molina, Jamie Foxx, Tony Revolori and J.K. Simmons.
