Captain Marvel actress Lashana Lynch addressed a possible return for the upcoming sequel, The Marvels.
Lashana Lynch played Maria Rambeau, a close friend to Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) that served as an Air Force pilot. When she reunites with Carol in the film, she’s revealed to have a young daughter named Monica Rambeau.
We eventually learn more about Lashana Lynch’s Maria Rambeau in WandaVision where we see her daughter Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) all grown up. Monica is shown to have been victim of Thanos’ snap, and after Professor Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) snapped everyone back into existence, she was shown to have reappeared in a hospital, assuming that her mother was recovering from her cancer. Unfortunately, it was revealed that in the five years since she disappeared, her mother passed away.
Given that in the present-day Maria Rambeau is dead, she may not return for The Marvels flashbacks not withstanding. In an interview with Radio Times, Lashana Lynch addressed the possibility of returning for the Captain Marvel sequel:
“You’ll have to ask [Marvel Studios president] Kevin Feige that. In fact, I should ask Kevin Feige that. But you never know. Weirder things have happened in the franchise. I had a wonderful time on the first one and it would be great to have a wonderful time on another one.”
Lashana Lynch was a fan of WandaVision and admitted that she was really pleased to see actress Teyonah Parris play the adult version of her daughter Monica, who will next be seen in The Marvels:
“I’m so glad they chose Teyonah Parris to play my daughter because she’s wonderful and a lovely human being.”
Whether or not Lashana Lynch will reunite with her Captain Marvel co-stars in The Marvels, it is likely that Maria Rambeau’s death will remain quite resonant for Carol and Monica. After all, director Nia DaCosta addressed that the upcoming sequel will address pain and trauma, which would make sense given the amount of loss the characters have experienced.
Lashana Lynch was last seen in 2019’s Captain Marvel. Here is the synopsis:
