Set photos from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever gives fans their first look at Letitia Wright’s Shuri and Danai Gurira’s Okoye in the sequel.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is currently filming in Massachusetts. After actor Chadwick Boseman tragically passed away, Marvel retooled the script for the sequel to accommodate the star’s passing. While details on the sequel are slim, it is expected that the film will heavily focus on Letitia Wright’s Shuri, T’Challa’s sister. Some comic runs have seen Shuri taking on the mantle of the Black Panther so it wouldn’t be out of the question for the sequel to pull from the source material. TMZ managed to snag two photos of the Shuri actor on set alongside Danai Gurira’s Okoye.
The Black Panther set photos were taken at the MIT campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Riri Williams/Ironheart, who is set to be played by Dominique Thorne, will be making her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in the Black Panther sequel. The Ironheart origin story sees Williams taking classes at MIT, where she develops an interest in crafting the Ironheart suit. It’s likely that Letitia Wright’s Shuri and Danai Gurira’s Okoye are at MIT to recruit Williams for whatever mission they have, similarly to how Tony Stark brought Peter Parker on board in Captain America: Civil War.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is expected to be both a sequel and tribute to the original film. It remains to be seen how exactly the film handles Chadwick Boseman’s absence, and if Shuri will take on the mantle of Black Panther.
Here is the synopsis for the first film:
After the death of his father, the king of Wakanda, young T’Challa returns home to the isolated high-tech African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king. But when a powerful enemy reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king – and Black Panther – is tested when he’s drawn into a formidable conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, he must release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life.
Directed by Ryan Coogler, the film stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is scheduled to hit theaters on July 8, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding Dominique Thorne’s role in the upcoming film and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s Youtube channel for more original video content.
