Kathryn Hahn broke down Agatha Harkness’ brutal fate in WandaVision.
Agatha Harkness started off as a mild-mannered parody of the nosy neighbor but quickly became a full-on witch hell-bent on assuming Wanda Maximoff’s raw powers. Kathryn Hahn’s performance as the cunning Agatha Harkness was widely praised, with many considering it to be her best performance. The end of the series saw Agatha losing at the hands of Wanda, failing to obtain the Avengers’ abilities.
As punishment for her actions, Wanda locked Agatha Harkness up in Westview, forcing her to remain as the bumbling, nosy neighbor for the rest of eternity. It’s a pretty dark ending and for the most part, WandaVision nailed it. Earlier this year, Kathryn Hahn described Agatha as someone who needed to “rest for a hot second”. In a recent interview with AV Club, the WandaVision star clarified her thoughts on the villain’s brutal ending.
“I’m glad you brought that up because I actually don’t. I think it’s kind of the worst. I kind of was making a joke when I said that. I actually do think it’s kind of the worst. I mean, to clip her wings and put her somewhere like that with boring people and not have anything to do. It’s the worst, it’s a nightmare. Yeah. I mean, [Wanda] basically lobotomized her.”
“I say like, ‘You’re cruel. You have no idea what you’re doing.’ Yeah, by the very end, I’m like, ‘You have no idea what you brought.’ I’m really trying to get her to understand the ramifications. Yeah, exactly. By the end, this girl has no idea what she’s doing.”
Agatha Harkness’ fate is pretty darn terrifying, especially because we know that she’ll never really be in control of her life. And as strange as it sounds, without Agatha, Wanda would have never fully assumed the role of Scarlett Witch, so maybe the evil witch should get cut some slack?
