The whole Who What Wear UK team is in research mode ahead of autumn, and as such, there’s a great deal of digital chatter over key items we’re bookmarking. The same few pieces have come up in conversation over and over again during the past few weeks: the £50 Marks and Spencer knee-high boots we can’t believe are high-street, a quilted jacket from The Frankie Shop that has sold-out status already, the COS dress that works perfectly from summer to autumn and finally, a very chic-looking instant outfit from Mango…
We’re no strangers to Mango’s knitwear. In fact, I’ve spoken about how good its jumpers, cardigans and knitted dresses can be. But there’s a new addition to this category that looks particularly premium. The Spanish brand’s latest drop includes a navy ribbed co-ord—a longline button-up shirt and flared long trousers—that looks straight out of a designer collection. The fact that it’s navy helps up the chic factor. Then, when I tried on the piece at home (yes, I bought it after spotting it in a colleague’s shopping story), I could see the allure thanks to the luxe finish on this knitted fabric. It’s not flimsy like many other ribbed co-ords out there on the high street.
For me, the fit wasn’t quite right because I’m short. Knitted trousers are notoriously difficult to take up, and they’re a bit long for me unless I wear heels. I liked the overall retro vibe (especially when I added in a vintage belt) but can also appreciate this set can be worn to suit different personal styles. It’s subtle enough to be worn on repeat for many seasons to come, as this knitted co-ord trend has basically shifted into wardrobe-staple territory, and I don’t see that changing any time soon. See how I and some other fashion lovers are wearing this new look below, and shop it for yourself.
Style Notes: Franny gives it a sporty twist with sneaks, making for the perfect weekend ensemble.
Style Notes: I wanted to cinch in the waist a little more as the shirt fit is quite loose, so added in a vintage belt and medallion necklace for a ’70s feel.
Style Notes: It even works undone with a crop top bralette and clogs. See how versatile it is?
