Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has promised that characters from Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings have a healthy future in the MCU.
Earlier this week, Marvel Studios premiered Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in Los Angeled to all-around positive reactions. Critics and influencers praised the film for its inventive action sequences and strong, emotional family dynamic. With much of the conversation around the film being wholly positive, fans are hopeful that Shang-Chi’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is as long and storied as other characters.
In an interview with Extra at the film’s premiere, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige discussed how he and the creatives at the studio have concrete plans for Shang-Chi, and that he, along with characters associated with him, will return to the MCU soon.
“As always, it will become very clear when people see the movie that we are not shy about indicating where the future can go and I think I’ll leave it at that.”
“You will see in this movie, not just the future of…oh I almost gave you a spoiler there so I’ve got to be careful with that…but most importantly, it’s the characters. All of the characters that you meet in this movie — a few you’ve met before, most you are meeting for the first time…we know we have a success on our hands when we do a test screening and people come out and ask ‘When are we gonna see Shang-Chi again?’ or ‘When are we gonna see the numerous other characters in this movie?’ The answer is soon.”
It’s unclear when exactly fans will see Shang-Chi or his various associated characters again seeing as a “team-up” movie like the Avengers currently isn’t in the cards. Of course, this is Marvel, and Shang-Chi characters could appear in any number of movies, including Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, or the upcoming She-Hulk series. Hopefully, we’ll get some indication as to when they’ll appear next in the MCU once we get a chance to see the film this September.

“Simu Liu stars as Shang-Chi in Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings. Shang-Chi must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization.”
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a script written by David Callaham, the Marvel film stars Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Tony Leung, Ronny Chieng, and Dallas Liu. The upcoming movie will hit theaters on September 3, 2021.
