WandaVision star Paul Bettany is hopeful that Vision will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
WandaVision debuted earlier this year on Disney Plus, making it Marvel Studio’s first televised offering. The series was widely praised for its inventive storyline, character development for both Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda and Paul Bettany’s Vision and costume and set design. Ultimately, the series wrapped up Wanda and Vision’s collective storyline, with Vision’s character arc closing up. Despite Vision disappearing into the ether, Bettany is still hopeful that the character will return.
In a chat with Deadline, Paul Bettany opened up about how the televised nature of WandaVision allowed for Wanda and Vision’s story to be told, as well as how he doesn’t think that Vision’s time in the MCU is done yet.
“It was a beautiful culmination for all these things Lizzie and I have done together. We really found a lane for ourselves, and this was different in tone from those movies. But you never know with Marvel, whether you’re done, or not. So I don’t want to call it the end yet.”
It’s entirely possible that Vision will return in the near future. While Wanda may have let go of Westview, it’s likely that parts of it still exist in her mind, which can be channeled and expanded upon. Wanda is set to return in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, so we could see her channeling the manifested town in the Sam Raimi-directed film.
The series did show Wanda and Vision’s kids having superpowers, which led many to believe that Marvel was teasing their inclusion in a potential Young Avengers series. It remains to be seen if Marvel Studios expands on this idea, resulting in Vision and the kids joining Wanda in the real world.
Here is the synopsis for WandaVision:
Marvel Studios’ “WandaVision” blends the style of classic sitcoms with the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany)—two super-powered beings living their ideal suburban lives—begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems.
Matt Shakman directed the series with Jac Schaeffer as the lead scribe with Kevin Feige producing; WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as The Vision, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, Evan Peters as Ralph Bohner, and Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness.
