Deadshot and Harley Quinn kiss in this new image from the David Ayer Cut of Suicide Squad.
Ever since the theatrical release of the 2016 DC Extended Universe film Suicide Squad, many fans of the franchise expressed disappointment over the finished product. What looked to be a fresh and exciting new comic book movie for the fledgling franchise turned out to be a film panned by critics and audiences alike. Some elements of the film received praise, such as the portrayals of Deadshot and Harley Quinn by Will Smith and Margot Robbie respectively, but many fans remain unsatisfied, and have campaigned for the David Ayer Cut of the film to be released.
A brand new image from the David Ayer Cut of Suicide Squad surfaced online, and it reveals a surprising character connection between Deadshot and Harley Quinn that was absent from the theatrical release. The image in question shows the two characters sharing a kiss, which you can see down below:
This moment from the David Ayer Cut of Suicide Squad is an interesting revelation for numerous reasons. For one, the film establishes the romantic relationship between Harley Quinn and The Joker, and there seemed to be very little evidence of any fling between Harley Quinn and Deadshot – let alone a romance. Interestingly enough, the two characters share a one night stand in the 2014 DC animated film, Batman: Assault on Arkham.
This image of Deadshot and Harley Quinn kissing is yet another aspect of the elusive David Ayer Cut of Suicide Squad that reflects the many differences it has from the theatrical release. Recently, the director publicly disowned the theatrical cut of the film, and has described his director’s cut as a “soulful drama,” while also expressing unwavering support for James Gunn’s newest standalone sequel, The Suicide Squad.
Here is the synopsis of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad:
Welcome to hell—a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese. Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and-destroy mission, with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave…and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them.
Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Peter Capaldi, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, Michael Rooker, Pete Davidson, Nathan Fillion, Sean Gunn, Flula Borg, Mayling Ng, Tinashe Kajese, Steve Agee, Jennifer Holland, Alice Braga, Juan Diego Botto, Joaquin Cosio, Storm Reid and Taika Waititi.
The Suicide Squad is now playing in theaters and on HBO Max.
