James Gunn denied rumors that he was working on Gotham City Sirens with Margot Robbie.
The Suicide Squad has received acclaim from critics and fans alike, and Warner Bros. is so pleased with James Gunn’s DC Extended Universe film that they’re looking to work on future projects together after this film and the upcoming Peacemaker series on HBO Max. A project that some fans have speculated that James Gunn may be tackling in the future is Gotham City Sirens, reuniting him with Margot Robbie.
Well, while James Gunn and Margot Robbie have discussed working together again in the future, it won’t be on Gotham City Sirens. The Suicide Squad’s writer/director took to his official Twitter to deny any involvement with Gotham City Sirens, and also reveals that it wasn’t something he even considered to do:
The Gotham City Sirens comic series was written by Paul Dini with art by Guillem March. It centers on Harley Quinn, Catwoman and Poison Ivy, who were set to appear onscreen together in the planned film. David Ayer was attached to direct Gotham City Sirens with a script from Geneva Dworet-Robertson. According to David Ayer, development on the film remains “on pause” for now.
It’ll sure be exciting to see James Gunn and Margot Robbie work together again on a new DC film, but it won’t be Gotham City Sirens. James Gunn’s next projects will involve his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and of course, the long-awaited Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Here is the synopsis for James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad:
Welcome to hell—a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese. Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and-destroy mission, with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave…and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them.
Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Peter Capaldi, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, Michael Rooker, Pete Davidson, Nathan Fillion, Sean Gunn, Flula Borg, Mayling Ng, Tinashe Kajese, Steve Agee, Jennifer Holland, Alice Braga, Juan Diego Botto, Joaquin Cosio, Storm Reid and Taika Waititi.
The Suicide Squad is now playing in theaters and on HBO Max. Stay tuned for all the latest news on James Gunn, Margot Robbie and Gotham City Sirens, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content!
