Tom Hardy Is Trying His Best To Make A ‘Venom’ & ‘Spider-Man’ Crossover Happen

Tom Hardy opened up about wanting to see Venom crossover with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.

Ever since Tom Hardy’s Venom hit cinemas in 2018, fans have been wanting to see the alien symbiote crossover with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. Of course, the rights regarding Spider-Man and its various related characters are finicky at best, with Sony largely controlling them. Sony and Marvel Studios did broker a deal in the mid-2010s that would allow Spider-Man to crossover into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but that deal doesn’t necessarily extend to other characters, like Hardy’s Venom.

In a recent interview with Esquire, Tom Hardy bluntly opened up about wanting to make a Venom and Spider-Man crossover happen. Despite it being something that he really wants, Hardy is clearly aware of all the legal and creative hurdles that would need to be jumped through to make the crossover a reality. He also pointed out that he can’t be the only one to want to foster that deal, stating that it’s best if both parties (Sony and Marvel Studios) sit down and talk it through.

“Obviously, that’s a large canyon to leap, to be bridged by one person alone, and it would take a much higher level of diplomacy and intelligence, sitting down and talking, to take on an arena such as that. Should both sides be willing and it be beneficial to both sides, I don’t see why it couldn’t be.”

The Venom star continued by comparing the ordeal to a timely Olympic-like feat. Despite how daunting it sounds, Hardy maintained that he would “do anything” to make a Spider-Man crossover happen.

“I hope and strongly, with both hands, push, eagerly, towards that potential, and would do anything to make that happen, within what’s right in business. But it would be foolish not to head towards the Olympic Games if you were running 100 metres, so yeah! I want to play on that field.”

The brass and creatives over at Sony have stated multiple times how they’d be interested in connecting their so-called Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige also hasn’t ruled out a potential crossover.. It’s entirely possible that Sony and Marvel Studios could be fostering a deal behind the scenes that would allow Tom Holland’s Spider-Man to duke it out with Tom Hardy’s Venom.

Here is the synopsis for Sony’s first Venom film:

The evolution story of Marvel’s most enigmatic, complex and badass character – Venom! Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) is a broken man after he loses everything including his job and fiancée. Just when his life is at its lowest, he becomes host to an alien symbiote which results in extraordinary superpowers – transforming him into Venom. Will these powers be enough for this new lethal protector to defeat great evil forces, especially against the far stronger and more weaponized symbiote rival, Riot?

Directed by Ruben Fleischer from a script written by Jeff Pinkner & Scott Rosenberg and Kelly Marcel, Venom stars Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, Reid Scott, Jenny Slate, Ron Cephas Jones, and Woody Harrelson.
