Michael Keaton opened up about what it was like to wear the Batman suit on the set of The Flash.
It’s still hard to believe it but Michael Keaton is returning as Batman after last appearing as The Caped Crusader in 1992’s Batman Returns. Keaton will be reprising his role for The Flash, which is expected to open up the multiverse for the DC Extended Universe. Ben Affleck’s Batman is also set to reprise his role in the speedster’s film, though it’s unclear if both Batmen will be sharing the screen together.
Michael Keaton last wore the cape and cowl nearly three decades ago, so one might expect the reunion to be emotional or jarring. However, Keaton revealed to Jake Hamilton that wearing the suit for The Flash was as normal as possible.
“It was shockingly normal. It was weird. Like I went ‘Oh, oh yeah, that’s right.’ But also then you start to play the scenes and a lot of memories, a lot of interesting sense memories (start to come back).”
Keaton was also asked if he’ll be saying his iconic “I’m Batman” line in The Flash, but he remained coy. Hamilton also asked the Batman actor if he’s gotten a chance to speak to Batman Returns director Tim Burton about his return to the beloved superhero.
“No, but just because we haven’t because we’ve got other stuff to talk about.”
Thanks to set photos, we’ve got our first look at Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne. However, we still haven’t caught a glimpse of the actor in the batsuit. Perhaps we’ll see him back in the suit in a promo at DC Fandome?
Directed by Andy Muschietti from a script written by Birds of Prey scribe Christina Hodson, The Flash stars Ezra Miller, Ben Affleck, Michael Keaton, Sasha Calle, Kiersey Clemons, Maribel Verdu, and Ron Livingston. The film will be inspired by the Flashpoint comic storyline, which followed The Flash as he navigated an altered DC Universe. Written by Geoff Johns and penciled by Andy Kuber, Flashpoint radically altered the status of the DC Comics universe and led to the launch of the New 52 titles. It is currently unknown how much inspiration the upcoming Ezra Miller film will take from the comic.
The Flash is set to hit theaters on November 4, 2022. Stat tuned for all the latest news surrounding the Ezra Miller film and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
