Marvel’s ‘What If…?’ Is Certified Fresh On Rotten Tomatoes

Marvel’s latest Disney Plus series, What If…? is now certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

First officially revealed in April of 2019, Marvel’s What If…? is the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first attempt at adding an animated series to its roster. The premise for the show is very simple; an anthology series that has the various MCU characters in alternate situations. This includes but is not limited to Peggy Carter getting Captain America’s super-soldier serum and Tony Stark being reduced by Kilmonger during the events of the first Iron Man film.

The early reactions to Marvel’s What If…? were mostly positive. Since then more critics have seen the series and, in a development that probably surprises no one, is now certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with an 89% approval rating as of this writing. The critical consensus notes that What If…? doesn’t add much to the overall Marvel Cinematic Universe but praise the action and the new takes on the characters:

What If…? may not add much to the larger MCU narrative, but surprising takes on beloved characters and some of the best action sequences in the entire franchise make for engaging viewing.

Here is the synopsis for What If…?:

“Exploring pivotal moments from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and turning them on their head, leading the audience into uncharted territory.”

The upcoming animated series will feature the voices of Josh Brolin, Natalie Portman, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner, Paul Rudd, Mark Ruffalo, Chadwick Boseman, Jeffrey Wright, Hayley Atwell, and other major stars from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

What If…? will premiere on Disney Plus on August 11 with new episodes being released weekly. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the new series and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
