Hugh Jackman discussed the unlikelihood of him returning as Wolverine for Marvel Studios’ ever-expanding multiverse.
Loki practically changed the Marvel Cinematic Universe for good after its first season ended with the multiverse opening up. With thousands upon thousands of conflicting timelines forming, there has to be one branch where Hugh Jackman is Wolverine, right? With Spider-Man: No Way Home potentially seeing Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield return as their respective Peter Parkers, many have been hoping to see Jackman return as Wolverine.
Hugh Jackman bid farewell to Wolverine after a nearly two-decade-long tenure in Logan. Despite the character’s end being conclusive, Marvel Studios’ new multiverse concept opens up the possibility of the mutant returning. In a recent interview with Jake Hamilton, Jackman was asked if there was a story or angle under the multiverse that could see the famed X-Men star join the MCU.
“I’m hearing about this from you [Hamilton], and there’s nothing in my inbox from Kevin Feige means it’s probably, no matter what idea I came up with, not on the table. Let’s just be clear that, but now, I realized, before we shot Logan, I was like, we got the idea. We knew what it was going to be-ish, right? And I thought this is it. And that really helped me, it really helped knowing I was going into my last season, that it was my last season that I made the most of it. And it’s still a character I hold close to my heart. But I know it’s done. Tell that to whoever you want to. Please tell it to Ryan [Reynolds]. Because he’s like, doesn’t believe anything’s I’m joking, please.”
Hugh Jackman seems pretty adamant about not returning to the role for Marvel Studios. It isn’t surprising considering how Jackman has been keen to move on from the role for years. While a multiverse-stylized project with Wolverine would be amazing, it seems best for Jackman to leave the character alone. It’s also not surprising that Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds is budging Jackman to return, especially now that Deadpool 3 will be produced under Marvel Studios.
Here is the official synopsis for Logan:
In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.
Directed by James Mangold, Logan stars Hugh Jackman, Sir Patrick Stewart, Dafne Keen, Stephen Merchant, Richard E. Grant, Eriq LaSalle, Elizabeth Rodriguez, and Boyd Holbrook.
Logan is now available on Digital HD, Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding X-23, Dafne Keen, Deadpool 3, plus the future of the X-Men in the MCU. Also, be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more video content!
