What makes a wedding dress suitable for autumn is ultimately down to your personal preference and what your overall wedding day looks like. Although I was an August bride, my wedding took place in my Scottish coastal hometown, so, erring on the side of caution, I chose a fitted dress to minimise the chill. Though it was sleeveless, I was prepared for what the enviable chilly downpour that ensued, thanks to a beautiful, ecru leather jacket I bought on a whim up just the week before. And I’m so glad I did, as I barely took to off.
I don’t think a bride should let the elements determine what they should wear on her wedding day—I’ve had friends get married on snowy December days in strapless goes that still look the beautiful part—but the season is something worth bearing in mind when you begin trying on wedding dresses. That’s not to say autumn wedding dresses need to be full-length, long-sleeve and made of weighty fabrications, but depending on the location, time of day, and the length of your nuptials, it might make sense to give some thought to some design elements that’ll make your dress more fitting for autumn.
Whether you’re planning a small, intimate celebration or a grand soirée of epic proportions, I’ve found 21 autumn wedding dresses (for every budget, I might add) that are so jaw-droppingly beautiful, they’re making me want to get married all over again. Scroll on to find the “one”.
