Deadpool star and producer Ryan Reynolds thinks that the franchise’s third installment will begin production sometime in 2022.
Since the Disney buyout of Fox, many have wondered when the Marvel Cinematic Universe would add The Fantastic Four and the X-Men to its roster. While a new Fantastic Four film has been confirmed to be in development, there is no definitive word on when the Mutants will enter the MCU. Ryan Reynolds, on the other hand, seems to think that his iconic character will get a new film sooner rather than later.
Ryan Reynolds first appeared as a version of Deadpool in the Wolverine prequel, X-Men Origins: Wolverine. After a long development process, the character was given his own film in the 2016 film, Deadpool. The movie was a massive critical and financial success as was the sequel, Deadpool 2. Then the Disney buyout of Fox happened and it left the future of the franchise in question.
Since the buyout both Ryan Reynolds and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige have, on occasion, thrown out hints as to what is going on with Deadpool and make a few official announcements to further stir the pot. While speaking to Collider, Reynolds recently stated that he was 70% sure that production for Deadpool 3 would start sometime next year:
“The percentage chance? I don’t know. I couldn’t assign a percentage to that. I’d say it’s 50/50 maybe? We’re really actively developing it and getting it into pretty good shape. What the hell month is it? August? Oh next year? Probably pretty damn good. I’d say 70%.”
Here’s the synopsis for Ryan Reynolds’ latest film, Free Guy:
After realizing that he’s a non-playable-character in an open world video game that will soon get shut down, a bank teller played by Ryan Reynolds named Guy tries his best to save himself and the game from being permanently offline.
Directed by Shawn Levy, Free Guy stars Ryan Reynolds, Lil Rel Howery, Joe Keery, Jodie Comer, Utkarsh Ambudkar, and Taika Waititi. Streamers Ninja and Pokimane will have cameo appearances.
Free Guy will hit theatres on August 13, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news on Deadpool 3 and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content!
