In lieu of in-person attendance at this year’s CinemaCon, Disney has decided to screen Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings for attendants a week ahead of release.
This year’s CinemaCon is set to begin on August 23 and wrap up on the 26th in Las Vegas, Nevada. The biggest exhibition event for movie theatre owners and studios, the event has always been a front-row seat for industry insiders to get a sneak peek at a studio’s upcoming slate. Disney was originally set to hold an in-person presentation from executives and cast members at the event but bowed out last week, citing growing COVID-19 cases in Nevada. Instead of having an in-person presentation, Disney has decided to screen Marvel’s latest offering Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings at the convention on the 25th, a week before its theatrical release.
The Marvel screening takes place on August 25th at 9:30 A.M. Attendees have been explicitly warned to turn off their mobile devices prior to the film’s commencement. Seeing as the film is only a week out at that point, fans can expect reactions and thoughts from Shang-Chi at around noon, when the film lets out. While Disney won’t be making an appearance at CinemaCon, other studios like Warner Bros., Paramount, Lionsgate, NEON, and Universal will be staying on, presenting their upcoming slate of films. Sony, the studio that co-produces the Spider-Man films alongside Marvel, even has a lengthy three-hour-long presentation on August 23rd. Perhaps a Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer is in our future?
