What If…? executive producer Brad Winderbaum talked about the show’s impact on the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe during a recent press conference event.
Loki formally introduced the multiverse to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which helped set the stage for Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Heroic Hollywood recently attended a virtual press conference for What If…?, where executive producer Brad Winderbaum said that the series is coming out after Loki for a reason:
“It’s no coincidence that the show picks up right after Loki…The multiverse has erupted in every possible direction.”
As Marvel Studios’ first animated series, some might have assumed What If…? wasn’t going to play a significant role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, there have been rumors of What If…? characters showing up in future live-action projects, and Winderbaum teased the series isn’t some write-off anthology series from Marvel Studios:
“I think that without going into great detail, I can tell you that What If…? — as a project, as a story that exists in the MCU — is as important as any other and is woven into that tapestry.”
