The Suicide Squad star Idris Elba has teased a potential return to the Thor franchise.
Many fans seem to forget that Idris Elba, one of the world’s most popular actors, used to be a mainstay in the Thor films. In fact, it’s almost criminal how underutilized the actor was. Appearing in the Marvel franchise since the first film in 2011, the British actor has played Heimdall, the all-knowing gate-keeper of the Bifrost bridge. Though a prominent being within the Asgardian role, the character didn’t get much to do in the films besides stan alongside the bridge and act stoic. Taika Waititi remedied how underused Elba was by giving him a more prominent role in Thor: Ragnarok. Elba’s role also extended to the Avengers films, appearing in Age of Ultron and Infinity War, where he “seemingly perished” at the hands of Thanos.
Now, Idris Elba has crossed over to the DC world of The Suicide Squad, where he’s playing Bloodsport, one of the team members of Task Force X. Set to hit cinemas next month, Elba’s Bloodsport appears to be one of the main players in James Gunn’s latest film. While it’s exciting that Elba has found a new home at DC, what does that mean for his character over at Marvel? Elba was spotted near the Australian set of Thor: Love and Thunder with actors from the film, which many believe suggest that he’ll be returning to the franchise.
In a recent chat with ComicBook.com, Idris Elba was asked if he was a “DC-exclusive” character now that his Marvel character had “seemingly perished.” Elba acted coy, suggesting that he might just be returning to the Thor franchise after all.
“I think that I’m excited about the possibilities in the DC world. And I think the word of choice to make note of is the word ‘seemingly.’”
