Strap yourselves in, race fans. Hot off the presses and first revealed to the world today during EA Play Live, we’re incredibly thrilled to reveal Grid Legends, coming to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One in 2022.
As if debuting the award-winning racing franchise on the latest console generation wasn’t exciting enough, it’s a thrill to be doing so with a game that takes the key components of any Grid game to new heights, and adds in a host of fresh content and experiences to boot.
Today’s official reveal trailer gave you a first taste of what that all looks like, but if you think you may’ve missed anything, have no fear. Let us walk you through the key components of this initial glimpse into a brave new chapter for Grid, from Codemasters and EA.
Grid Legends: Our Most Ambitious Story Ever
One thing is immediately clear as soon our reveal trailer begins: This is much more than a racing game.
Many titles from the Grid archives haven’t been afraid to create an engrossing story around thrilling racing action, and Grid Legends takes that approach to another level. For well over a year, the incredible team here has been planning and executing a stunning narrative using virtual production, blending reality and technology for a racing experience that this series has never seen before.
A superb cast of talent, including Ncuti Gatwa (star of Netflix’s “Sex Education”) bring our story to life, which centres around a new season of the Grid World Series – dominated by the infamous Ravenwest Motorsport and their five-time champion: Nathan McKane. A fly-on-the-wall documentary captures every moment as new teams and new personalities take their own shot at glory, with the action and drama boiling over both on the track and in the paddock. The spotlight is on you to defy the odds and hold your nerve behind the wheel, and to overcome McKane and Ravenwest, but that’s much easier said than done.
The twists and turns are not just saved for the track. Expect the unexpected, watch the line blur between fantasy and reality, and be ready to take on all comers in thrilling race events across the globe. This is your chance to become the next racing legend. Just one question remains: Will you take that chance?
Stunning Racing Variety in Grid Legends
Whether you’re immersed in the story or competing in any of our other modes, you’ll find an incredible selection of cars – over 100, in fact, all hand-picked to ensure a variety of racing experiences. Did you spot all six of the real-world cars in our trailer, like the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro Concept, Audi A4 Quattro BTCC, and Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X Drift-Tuned.
You also saw a clutch of stunning fictional machines dreamt up by our team, from a nimble single-seater to a humongous big rig. Every car will be upgradable in performance as you progress, and we’ll share more details on that new feature and plenty more in the coming months.
It’s not all about your classic race events, either. By popular demand, Drift events return in Grid Legends, with dedicated routes, events, and drift-tuned cars. However, you want to compete, you’ll have 130 routes to do it on, from a quintessential Grid mix of real-world circuits and amazing fictional tracks. Take the action to Indianapolis, Brands Hatch, and more circuits to be revealed, or race on the legendary streets of San Francisco, Paris, or brand-new additions like London and Moscow, which you may’ve spotted in the trailer. More fan-favourite and fresh locations to be revealed, too.
Create the Ultimate Grid Legends Event
Whilst all cars will be split into dedicated classes, our race creator tools in will allow you to create events with multiple classes on track, and many more variables to make the race unique. Let’s say you want a 20-lap race, through the streets of London, at night, in the rain, with classic touring cars taking on trucks. Oh, and there’s a countdown timer, with the last-placed car eliminated whenever the timer hits zero. You can make that happen with the race creator – and when you’re done designing your event, why not take it online and challenge racers across the globe to compete in it?
Grid Legends’ story and other modes will feature hundreds of carefully created events using all of these tools, but we wanted to give you the same opportunity to create, and share, your dream race. We can’t wait to see what you conjure up.
The Road to Grid Legends: Launching 2022
Of course, it’s extremely early days, as we build towards launch next year, but we couldn’t wait any longer to give you this first glimpse of what’s coming your way – and this just scratches the surface.
In the coming months, we’ll really start to shift through the gears, with details on new modes, features, cars, locations, online innovations, and plenty more. Trust me: We are just getting started…
