This is probably not very ‘fashion editor’ of me to admit, but I often avoid buying items of clothing that are purely designed for the summer months. Perhaps it’s because I have always been drawn to the cosy layers of autumn (I’m a November baby), or maybe it’s simply my inner budgeter who resents spending money on items that last for a few months of the year (well, in the UK anyway).
After spending one too many holiday with nothing weather-appropriate to wear, I finally conceded that the odd summer dress or pair of linen shorts were probably worth the investment, however I still stand by the fact that, where possible, I want to try and invest in clothing that can be adapted to all weathers. Think tailored trousers that look just as good with a tank top as they do with a cashmere jumper or a dress-up-dress-down midi skirt.
This is the premise on which I’ve built my latest shopping gallery: 24 items from M&S, COS and Warehouse that, on the whole, can be adapted to any season. The item that at the top of my wishlist is Warehouse’ supremely chic colour-block midi dress, which is begging to be worn to summer weddings with strappy sandals then, come autumn, layered-up with knee-high boots and a cardi. Of course, I’ve thrown in the odd high summer buy that, on days like today (it’s currently 30 degrees outside), you just can’t manage without. Scroll down to see and shop my full edit.
