There’s something uniquely satisfying about someone asking, “Where did you get that?” about an item of clothing that did not cost an arm and a leg. But finding those standout items for less, whether it’s via the high street, a small brand or second-hand, is a skill that takes time to refine, but once you’ve got the knack, it’s integral to making wise investments with your hard-earned cash.
If you’re still in the process of honing the skill, then allow me to be of assistance. I’ve trawled through some of my favourite high-street stores to find 10 winning pieces per brand that are really worth the investment. I selected Monki, & Other Stories and Mango, as I feel their edits are particularly noteworthy right now and represent a wide range of styles and price points. I think my highlight has to be Mango’s current new-in category, which is filled with achingly chic buys, including a pinstripe shirt-and-trousers co-ord, a pair of white-denim dungarees, premium-looking split-hem jeans and a chic linen suit jacket that will carry you long into autumn. Monki, meanwhile, is a gold mine of colour and print and includes these fantastic trousers, which I own and get so many compliments about. And of course, there’s & Other Stories, a reliable go-to for timeless floral prints, Breton stripes and versatile separates. Scroll down to see and shop my complete edit.
