James Gunn Reveals That HBO Max’s Peacemaker Series Has Wrapped

James Gunn has revealed that HBO Max’s upcoming Peacemaker spin-off series has wrapped.

In addition to directing and writing next month’s The Suicide Squad, James Gunn also lent his creative talents to a spin-off prequel series focusing on John Cena’s Peacemaker. Set to premiere early next year as an HBO Max exclusive, the series is set to explore Peacemaker’s origins prior to his appointment to the Suicide Squad. Production on the series began in early 2021 in Vancouver, Canada, and wrapped up earlier this week.

Taking to Twitter, James Gunn revealed that the first season of Peacemaker had wrapped production. The writer and director also revealed how the idea for a Peacemaker series began as a vague pitch to HBO Max that quickly blossomed into a full-0n series. He also thanked the cast and crew on the HBO Max production, It was revealed earlier this week that three other directors had joined Gunn in helming the 8-episode season. Interestingly enough, Gunn refers to the end of production as the end of the first season, implying that we might see more of Cena as Peacemaker in the future.

And that’s a wrap on Day 131 & Season One of #Peacemaker. Less than a year ago I pitched a vague pitch to @HBOMax – here we are 11 months later with 8 astounding episodes in the can. Cast & crew: I love you all. Thank you for putting your hearts & souls into this project.

Peacemaker will first be seen in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad below:

Welcome to hell—a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese. Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and-destroy mission, with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave…and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them.

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars David Dastmalchian, John Cena, Jai Courtney, Joaquín Cosío, Nathan Fillion, Joel Kinnaman, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Sean Gunn, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, Pete Davidson, Taika Waititi, Alice Braga, Steve Agee, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Peter Capaldi, Julio Ruiz, Jennifer Holland, Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Margot Robbie, and Michael Rooker.

The Suicide Squad is currently scheduled to hit theaters and HBO Max on August 6, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news on The Suicide Squad, John Cena’s Peacemaker, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
