‘Loki’ Producer Promises Marvel Will Have More LGBTQ+ Representation

Loki producer Victoria Alonso promises that future Marvel projects will have more LGBTQ+ representation.

Marvel Studios is making it a point to introduce more LGBTQ+ elements in their future projects. In their more recent project, Loki,  fans saw the character confirming that he is bisexual. Future Marvel projects such as Thor: Love and Thunder will further explore representation, with a key plot point of the film being Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie finding a queen to rule Asgard. In an interview with Variety during the premiere of Black Widow, Loki producer and Executive Vice President of Film Production at Marvel Studios Victoria Alonso said that the studio is trying its best to further representation.

“It takes time, we have so many stories that we can tell. We will empower those that are. We’re not changing anything. We’re just showing the world who these people are, who these characters are.”

“We’re not going to nail it in the first movie or the second movie or third movie, or the first show or second show. But we will do our best to consistently try to represent.”

The Marvel exec was then asked the importance of confirming Loki as bisexual, saying that it wasn’t a “big deal”.

“It is what it is when it suits the character. We’re not going to do it because it’s politically correct or incorrect. It is what it is. Don’t forget, we follow our comics. We try to follow them quite to the tee. So in the comics this is who he was.”
