Loki director Kate Herron commented on Twitter what it meant for her to reveal the character’s sexuality.
Disney Plus and Marvel Studios’ Loki is not only exciting because it is the franchise’s first formal foray into the multiverse but also because it expands upon the iconic character. Played by Tom Hiddleston since 2011’s Thor, Loki quickly emerged as a fan favorite. His character slowly moved away from being a full-on tyrannical villain and morphed into a likable, but still deceitful anti-hero. With the new Disney Plus series directed by Kate Herron, audiences have already seen some of Loki’s most emotional moments, giving fans further insight into the character’s psyche and thought process.
While the first two episodes of Loki have done a fantastic job of exploring the character’s insecurities, the third episode explicitly explored and revealed the character’s sexuality. In the third episode, Loki is chatting with Lady Loki, and the topic of gender roles comes up. The character then mentions how he’s bisexual. This lines up with what Tom Hiddleston said about the character being gender-fluid during the show’s press run. After the episode’s debut, director Kate Herron took to Twitter to comment on how important it was for her to explore the character’s sexuality in the show.
From the moment I joined @LokiOfficial it was very important to me, and my goal, to acknowledge Loki was bisexual. It is a part of who he is and who I am too. I know this is a small step but I’m happy, and heart is so full, to say that this is now Canon in #mcu #Loki pic.twitter.com/lz3KJbewx8
