Loki head writer Michael Waldron teased the impact that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will bring to the MCU.
Michael Waldron served as the head writer for Marvel Studios’ newest original Disney Plus series Loki, but that’s not the only MCU project he’s worked on. Along with the God of Mischief, he’s also written the script for the Sorcerer Supreme with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which will be directed by Sam Raimi. Given his connection to the new Disney Plus original series and the highly-anticipated film, it’s safe to say that he has a hand in bringing a massive narrative impact into the MCU unlike anything we’ve seen before.
In an interview with Collider, Steve Weintraub expressed his prediction to Waldron that both Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Spider-Man: No Way Home will shake up the MCU in ways unseen before. Without giving away spoilers, Waldron teased as such:
“You’re right. I think that you don’t bring Sam Raimi on to make a movie unless it’s going to be a big movie.”
With Waldron serving as the head writer on Loki and as screenwriter for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, there will certainly be some narrative connection between the two in some way. At the very least, the first episode of Loki specifically references the Multiverse, which will not only be part of the Doctor Strange sequel, but is expected by many to be a factor in Spider-Man: No Way Home, in which the Sorcerer Supreme will also appear.
Are you excited to see what director Sam Raimi and screenwriter Michael Waldron bring with the highly-anticipated sequel? Sound off in the comments below.
Details on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness are currently limited, though it is said to feature horror elements. Furthermore, the Disney Plus mini-series WandaVision will also serve as the lead-in to the sequel. Scott Derrickson is still attached to the film as an executive producer, with Sam Raimi set to direct from a script written by Michael Waldron. The sequel will star Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, and Xochitl Gomez.
