The Lego Batman Movie director Chris McKay recently shared an update on the Nightwing film announced back in 2017.
The DC slate over at Warner Bros. has changed a lot since Batman v Superman came out. Some projects saw the light of day, while others have been cast aside, like Ben Affleck’s The Batman, Cyborg, and The New Gods. At the moment, it sounds like Warner Bros. is focused on developing a new Superman reboot, a new Joker film, Aquaman 2, Wonder Woman 3, Supergirl, Batgirl, Blue Beetle, Green Lantern Corps, Static Shock, and Zatanna. One project that we haven’t heard about in some time is Nightwing, which had The Lego Batman Movie director Chris McKay attached.
Chris McKay was revealed to be the director of the Nightwing film back in 2017, but a lot has changed with DC Films since, and for starters, we now have a new Batman in Robert Pattinson. During a recent interview on CinemaBlend’s ReelBlend podcast, McKay offered an update on the DC project:
“I hope it’s still a reality. I hope that we still get to make that movie. As far as I’m concerned, it’s not lost yet. It is obviously something that… they’ve had other priorities, they’ve had other challenges. They’d had things that they needed to do, and I think that they found their way. I think their recent successes, and the stuff that they are planning on doing now, I think it opens the door for us to still be able to do a Nightwing movie. Whether you call it ‘in an alternate universe’ or you pick in their multiverse version which universe it’s part of, there are different ways into it. But Nightwing is a big, action-packed, emotional movie. It may not, budgetarily, be similar to what we do with The Tomorrow War. But from a scope and scale standpoint, as far as the kind of action and the kind of heart, that’s what Nightwing is going to be all about.”
Do you hope Chris McKay directs Nightwing? Do you want it to connect to The Batman now? Sound-off in the comments section below!
Meanwhile, Dick Grayson made his live-action debut as Nightwing during Titans season two:
In Season 2, following the aftermath of their encounter with Trigon, Dick reforms the Titans. Under his supervision in their new home at Titans Tower, Rachel, Gar and Jason Todd train together to hone their hero abilities and work together as a team. They are joined by Hank Hall and Dawn Granger aka Hawk and Dove and Donna Troy aka Wonder Girl. Although these original Titans attempt to transition into a regular life, when old enemies resurface everyone must come together to take care of unfinished business. And as this family of old and new Titans – including Conner Kent and Rose Wilson – learn to co-exist, the arrival of Deathstroke brings to light the sins of the old Titans which threaten to tear this new Titans family apart once more.
Titans stars Brenton Thwaites as Nightwing, Anna Diop as Starfire, Teagan Croft as Raven, Ryan Potter as Beast Boy, Minka Kelly as Dove, Alan Ritchson as Hawk, Joshua Orpin as Superboy, Chelsea Zhang as Rose, Curran Walters as Red Hood, and Iain Glen as Bruce Wayne.
The first two seasons of Titans are available on HBO Max. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding Nightwing, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
