Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige has revealed how he created the unique title for Elizabeth Olsen’s WandaVision.
Despite not releasing a single theatrical Marvel project for over 12 months, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first foray into television was a smashing success with Elizabeth Olsen’s WandaVision. Both a homage and parody of sitcoms throughout the year, the Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany-led limited series garnered acclaim from fans and critics, with many hailing it as the best series of the year. Much of the success for the show goes to Kevin Feige, the architect behind the MCU. Feige’s involvement in the franchise is unparalleled, and his attention to detail, right down the series’ title shows just how innovative he can be.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Kevin Feige discussed how he came up with the title for WandaVision. The title was originally more traditional, but to fit the unique aesthetic and themes of the Elizabeth Olsen show, he drew inspiration from an equally unique film.
“I didn’t want to call the show Wanda and Vision or The Scarlet Witch and Vision. I was at the AFI [American Film Institute] luncheon in 2018 and I remember looking at the board where it listed the top 10 films and seeing BlacKkKlansmanI remember thinking, ‘How cool is that? They just mushed those two words together and the audience just accepts that as a title.’ So I thank Spike Lee for making BlacKkKlansman. I know that’s the weirdest connection ever, but that’s how it came about.”
