Danai Gurira will return as Okoye in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever before starring in her own Disney Plus series.
It’s been revealed that not only will Danai Gurira will return to play Okoye in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but the star will also lead her own TV series on Disney Plus. Gurira’s Okoye last appeared in Avengers: Endgame, coordinating with Black Widow on events around the world in the five years since Thanos’ snapped half the universe away before joining the final battle. But her story is about to get much bigger.
The Hollywood Reporter reported the news about an Okoye spin-off series in a profile of Gurira’s attorney, Jamie Mandelbaum. The show lead by Danai Gurira will apparently explore Okoye’s origin story. Deadline later pointed out that it seems likely this project is separate to the Wakanda series that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever director Ryan Coogler is developing for Disney Plus.
