The working title for Aquaman 2 starring Jason Momoa has been revealed and it teases where the story might go in the DC Extended Universe.
After the huge success of Jason Momoa’s Aquaman back in 2018, it seemed inevitable that a sequel would eventually surf onto the big screen. And as Aquaman 2 gears up for production in just a few months time, the working title for the film has been revealed, seemingly teasing where the sequel will go this time around. It seems like James Wan and the cast will be taking a dive to another underwater city when the film debuts in 2022.
As noted by Production Weekly, Aquaman 2 will shoot under the working title Necrus, which might catch the attention of long-time comic readers. Necrus was another oceanic city in the Aquaman comics similar to Atlantis. However, the domed city only exists in our dimension at certain periods of time as it’s connected to an alien satellite above Earth. And just to make things a little more complicated, the city is full of villainous inhabitants who hate the fact that humanity has dominated the planet.
Since Jason Momoa wrote a treatment for Aquaman 2, it’ll be interesting to see if he specifically looked at Necrus for inspiration. Of course, there’s also a chance it could just be a completely random working title chosen because of the Aquaman connection, and it might not have anything to do with the story whatsoever.
What do you make of the Necrus working title for Aquaman 2? Are you excited to see the Jason Momoa sequel? Sound-off in the comments below!
