DC Films and Marvel Studios would’ve both worked under Bob Iger if his plan for Disney to buy Warner Bros. had succeeded 2016.
Although the headline might currently be dominated by the news that Amazon is buying MGM for a whopping $8.45 billion, The New York Times has confirmed that an even bigger merger was nearly on the table in 2016. Obviously we all know about Disney’s monumental purchase of 20th Century Fox (now known as 20th Century Studios) with many fans excited to see properties like X-Men and Fantastic Four being folded into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But back when Bob Iger was in charge, Disney apparently looked into buying Warner Bros.
The New York Times recently reported that back in 2016 Bob Iger supposedly called then-Time Warner head Jeff Bewkes about Disney potentially buying Warner Bros. and the various properties and subsidiaries that it owns – like HBO, for example. However AT&T had already started the process of purchasing Warner Bros., so the deal didn’t go forward. But if it had, that would’ve meant both Marvel Studios and DC Films would’ve been owned by Disney, which is enough to get any fan’s head spinning.
Are you disappointed Disney didn’t buy Warner Bros.? Or do you think the company is big enough as it is? Sound-off in the comments below!
