Loki head writer Michael Waldron opened up about how the cosmic Disney Plus series is developing a new side of the MCU.
With less than a month to go until Loki finally debuts on our screens, many fans are already speculating about what the God of Mischief will be up against as the latest series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe unfolds each week. A new clip recently arrived online after thanks to the MTV Movie & TV awards, teasing what writer Michael Waldron has been cooking up for the Disney Plus series. But in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Waldron explained what Loki is aiming to do.
During the interview, Michael Waldron explained that a huge part of Loki’s story is grappling with his difficult identity thanks to his history as the son of a frost giant, a misaligned villain and eventually an anti-hero within the MCU. However, the head writer of the show also explained that by bringing in the Time Variance Authority, Loki is building a new corner of the MCU. Take a look at his words below.
“Loki’s a character that’s always reckoning with his own identity, and the TVA, by virtue of what they do, is uniquely suited to hold up a mirror to Loki and make him really confront who he is and who he was supposed to be. The TVA is just an entirely new world [with] a new cast of characters, and that’s what felt most exciting about the show: building a new corner of the MCU.’ What if this was the best show ever?’ I think that was literally my pitch. My pitch for the show was kind of a big, crazy, fun-time adventure.”
