The Suicide Squad director James Gunn continues to receive threats from DC fans over character deaths.
The tagline for the upcoming DC Extended Universe film The Suicide Squad is “Don’t get too attached.” Just on the basis of the concept of the Suicide Squad comics mixed in with James Gunn’s subversive sense of humor, it is clear that there will be many character deaths in his highly-anticipated film, with him even teasing that “almost all” of them will face their doom.
While James Gunn is playfully teasing DC fans about what to expect from The Suicide Squad, some of them are sending him threats over potential character deaths. The writer/director shared the following response he received on his Instagram from a DC fan that’s indicative of a few toxic bad apples:
This morning on IG: “This is a threat. If you kill (character name redacted) I will hatecrime you.” Every. Single. Day. https://t.co/LVlRfMTUG2

However, James Gunn won’t let the few trolls spoil his fun working on the movie, which he explains here:
If you read the comments below this thread, they’re someone around the average of 75 or 50 positive to 1 negative – too many artists get bogged down in the negative ones & grow numb to the positive ones. I try not to get bogged down in either & stay focused on what I love to do. https://t.co/sD8DMzqwgM

Are you excited to see what surprises are in store in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad? Where do you think some of the surprise deaths will come to play in the new DC film? Sound off in the comments below.
Here is the synopsis for James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad:
Welcome to hell—a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese. Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and-destroy mission, with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave…and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them.
Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars David Dastmalchian, John Cena, Jai Courtney, Joaquín Cosío, Nathan Fillion, Joel Kinnaman, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Sean Gunn, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, Pete Davidson, Taika Waititi, Alice Braga, Steve Agee, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Peter Capaldi, Julio Ruiz, Jennifer Holland, Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Margot Robbie, and Michael Rooker.
The Suicide Squad is currently scheduled to hit theaters and HBO Max on August 6, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news on James Gunn’s upcoming projects, and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
