The Suicide Squad director James Gunn has painted a very unhopeful message regarding the survival rates for his upcoming DC project.
It’s been known for a while that James Gunn plans on eliminating a decent amount of the characters in The Suicide Squad because, well, the team’s name wouldn’t mean much if they all made it out alive now, would it? For months, fans have been theorizing which characters will be safe when the Suicide Squad reboot hits theatres this August. Well, it looks like fans should throw their theories out the window because Gunn has teased that “almost all” the characters in the film will perish.
James Gunn was asked in an Instagram Q & A just how many characters were going to die and the director didn’t beat around the bush, teasing fans that “almost all of them” would have the curtains drawn on them. Of course, it’s hard to imagine Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn dying just because of how popular the character is. Then again, it would definitely be bonkers and completely in line with Gunn’s ethos surrounding the nature of The Suicide Squad.
Another character that’s likely safe is John Cena’s Peacemaker because Cena is a household name that draws considerable viewers in. Plus, he’s got an HBO Max series on the way, but that could very well end up just being a prequel. Only time will tell who makes it out alive at the end of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, but for the sake of all of us, I hope King Shark and Weasel make it out with their limbs intact.

You can check out the synopsis for The Suicide Squad below.
Welcome to hell—a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese. Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and-destroy mission, with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave…and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them.
Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars David Dastmalchian, John Cena, Jai Courtney, Joaquín Cosío, Nathan Fillion, Joel Kinnaman, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Sean Gunn, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, Pete Davidson, Taika Waititi, Alice Braga, Steve Agee, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Peter Capaldi, Julio Ruiz, Jennifer Holland, Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Margot Robbie, and Michael Rooker.
