New concept art from Justice League reveals a monstrous version of Darkseid’s loyal servant DeSaad.
When whispers of Zack Snyder’s Justice League first started swirling online, some of the things most fans wanted to see more of was more attention on villains like Steppenwolf, Darkseid and DeSaad. And as we all know, it took years before the Apokoliptian characters were finally given the screentime they deserved in the film. But there were a number of different designs that went into bringing them to life, and DeSaad in particular went through some haunting variations.
The alternate design comes from notable artist Jerad S. Marantz, who worked extensively on bringing some of the Justice League characters to life. In addition to DeSaad, the artist also worked on creating a terrifying look for Darkseid in the flashback sequence. While discussing his work on the Apokoliptian servant, Marantz explained that the more gruesome versions of DeSaad in the comics stuck out more than a simple hooded figure, and clearly that’s what inspired this concept art. His face is pretty monstrous compared to the cleaner version audiences saw in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Take a look below.
What do you make of the DeSaad design? Do you think this version of the villain should’ve been used in the film? Sound-off in the comments below!
Here is the synopsis for Zack Snyder’s Justice League:
“In ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, determined to ensure Superman’s (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad and Darkseid and their dreadful intentions.”
The Snyder Cut stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, JK Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.
