Masters Of The Universe Noah Centineo NetflixBlack Adam star Noah Centineo has left his role as He-Man in the planned live-action Masters of the Universe movie.

For a long time it seemed like Masters of the Universe was on the right track with Noah Centineo in the role of He-Man alongside the Nee Brothers who were set to direct the live-action film based on the animated series of the same name. However, warning signs started to show after Sony removed the film from its release calendar last year, and now the film’s He-Man has left the role as he continues to draw more attention from various other studios.

Collider broke the news about Noah Centineo leaving the He-Man role behind, as a representative simply told the outlet He is no longer attached to that project. It’s not a good sign for Masters of the Universe, but at least there is an animated Netflix series on the way from fan-favorite icon Kevin Smith and writer Marc Bernardin, with Mark Hamill voicing Skeletor and Supergirl alum Chris Wood voicing He-Man.

Based on the Mattel franchise of the same name, Masters of the Universe centers on the conflict between He-Man, the secret identity of Prince Adam, and the villainous sorcerer Skeletor on the planet Eternia. The franchise has previously spawned an animated TV series that ran from 1983 to 1985 and 1987 live-action film starring Dolph Lundgren.

Masters of the Universe will be directed by The Nee Brothers from a script written by Iron Man writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. Sony’s Matthew Milam will oversee the project for the studio with Mattel serving as a partner on the film. Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch are producing alongside Franklin Entertainment’s DeVon Franklin. 

Masters of the Universe currently doesn’t have a release date.
