Lupita Nyong’o offered a little more insight into how Ryan Coogler will handle Black Panther 2 without Chadwick Boseman.
It’s crazy to think that after Chadwick Boseman’s passing last August, the Black Panther sequel will move forward so soon, but it is. Black Panther 2 is expected to start filming this July in Georgia. As production gets closer to starting up, many Marvel fans wonder how the film will deal with the loss of Boseman, and Lupita Nyong’o dropped new details recently.
Marvel Studios confirmed back in December that they will not recast the role of T’Challa after Chadwick Boseman’s death, but that doesn’t mean we won’t see another character step into the Black Panther mantle. A lot of questions await their answers as we get closer to Black Panther 2, but Lupita Nyong’o shared with Yahoo! some insight on how she feels about Ryan Coogler’s approach:
“People will ask me, ‘Are you excited to go back?’ Excitement isn’t the word. I feel like I’m in a very pensive and meditative state when it comes to Black Panther 2. His passing is still extremely raw for me. And I can’t even begin to imagine what it will be like to step on set and not have him there… But at the same time we have a leader in Ryan, who feels very much like we do, who feels the loss in a very, very real way as well. And his idea, the way which he has reshaped the second movie is so respectful of the loss we’ve all experienced as a cast and as a world. So it feels spiritually and emotionally correct to do this. And hopefully, what I do look forward to, is getting back together and honoring what he started with us and holding his light through it. Because he left us a lot of light that we’re still going to be bathing in. I know that for sure.”

Faced with treachery and danger, he must release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life.
