Black Panther star Michael B Jordan recently addressed the latest rumors linking him to the role of Superman.
While Justice League star Henry Cavill has expressed interest in returning to the role of Superman, Warner Bros. is said to be rebooting the character with the help of Star Wars director J.J. Abrams. Acclaimed essayist and novelist Ta-Nehisi Coates is currently working on the script of the Superman reboot, which is expected to focus on a Black Man of Steel.
The Superman reboot is still in the early stages of development, so Warner Bros. has yet to find a star for the project. However, Black Panther star Michael B Jordan has long been a fan-favorite for the role of Superman and even pitched Warner Bros. on a vision for the DC Comics hero back in 2019. During a recent interview with Jake’s Takes, Jordan was asked if he’d be down to play the next Superman for the reboot. Here’s his response:
“I appreciate people that think about me in that type of way for these roles. I don’t really have anything more to kind of give on that, other than it’s just flattering and I appreciate it… Whoever they get, or if it goes that way, I think it’ll be an interesting thing to see.”
At the time of his pitch, Michael B Jordan was not ready to commit to the DC Universe as Warner Bros. was unlikely to get a Superman movie out on the big screen before 2023. It remains to be seen whether that will change now that Abrams and Coates are involved.
Henry Cavill’s Superman can currently be seen in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Here’s the official synopsis for the movie:
“In ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, determined to ensure Superman’s (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad and Darkseid and their dreadful intentions.”
Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League cut is now available on HBO Max. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Black Panther star Michael B Jordan and the Superman reboot from J.J. Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates, and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
