Mortal Kombat isn’t going to hold back on the violence according to Lewis Tan, who said one of the fatalities made him “sick to my stomach”.
It’s fair to say that over the years, video game adaptations haven’t necessarily been as faithful to the source material as they could be. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case with Mortal Kombat. The opening 13 minutes of the film are exceptionally brutal, and the violence won’t stop there. The game’s savage signature fatalities will be a key part of the fight scenes, and actor Lewis Tan recently explained that he’s seen the gruesome aftermath of what it’s taken to bring them to life.
When speaking to Variety ahead of Mortal Kombat‘s release, Lewis Tan explained that when working on the set he accidentally walked into a scene after a fatality scene had been shot and was shocked at the aftermath of the violence. He explained he felt “sick to my stomach” explaining that it looked like a devastating fight. Take a look below.
“They’re pretty gruesome. I walked on set one day and I didn’t know what was going on, and I accidentally walked into a post-fatality set and I felt pretty sick to my stomach. [Laughs.] I was like, ‘What the hell is this? What happened here?’ It looked like somebody destroyed a buffet line, but there was no food.”

Mortal Kombat was first adapted into a feature film directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, the filmmaker behind the Resident Evil series with Milla Jovovich. The film earned a worldwide total of $122 million and is widely regarded as one of the better adaptations of a video game.

Lewis Tan is also on board in an undisclosed role.
