The Falcon and The Winter Soldier featured a big cameo, but its star was originally meant to debut in Scarlet Johansson’s Black Widow.
Spoilers ahead for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier episode five.
If you’ve seen the fifth episode of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, you were no doubt surprised to see Julia Louis-Dreyfus show up introducing herself to John Walker as Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Comic readers will know that the character has had a long history on both sides of the law, working with Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. before becoming one of the people to take the name Madame Hydra. But even after that, it was revealed she was a Russian sleeper agent. Which makes it highly interesting that Dreyfus was originally set to debut in Black Widow before it was delayed.
A piece from Vanity Fair confirmed that Julia Louis-Dreyfus had originally shot footage for Black Widow, and although she was playing Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, it’s not yet clear what kind of role she would’ve had in the solo film. As stated in the report, Marvel Studios is positioning Dreyfus in a role which will carry over throughout multiple projects, so who knows where we’ll see her next.
How do you think Julia Louis-Dreyfus will play into the MCU going forward? Are you interested to see where she shows up in Black Widow? Sound-off in the comments below!
